Thanksgiving weekend hike

The Cat Stole My I-Pod...

Random pics to go with some random babblings. The I Pod appears to be Casey's new toy of choice: she likes to play with the headphone cord and groove to the tunes.

My mom's doing better. Still awaiting the second stage of surgery on her leg (she has an external plate that she has described to me as "a giant windshield wiper").

I'm hard at work recruiting subjects. Feels like for everyone new I recruit, someone else drops out of the study (despite my bribing starving students with lasagna: the lady at the grocery store was quite impressed with my all lasagna grocery order the other week). Part of the game I guess. I'm leaving for New Orleans on Saturday and have realized that I have reached a new low when I decided the other day that as long as I have my poster and passport, anything else I pack is really just a bonus...

Warm woolies

Here are my recent knitting endeavors. Marieke liked her early b-day mitts. I finished my green socks (note also my mom's stripey socks - aren't they pretty) and I love my fingerless llama gloves I made over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Clean underwear math

Okay, so I spent my weekend preparing for the GRE (I need it if I want to apply for the PhD program that will enable me to move back home) and teaching my father to do laundry. Here is the resulting GRE math problem that this situation has transpired:

Absent-minded professor has 4 weeks of clean underwear. If his daughter is coming home in 3 weeks, what is the probability of absent-minded professor doing his own laundry?

I am such a nerd... bwaaa...

On a less serious note...

Does anyone else find my latte personality test to be completely contradictory?

I am frivolous and don't take anything too seriously but find it hard to be carefree.

What Your Latte Says About You

You don't treat yourself very often. You find that indulging doesn't jibe with your very disciplined life.

You are a very frivolous person. You don't take anything too seriously. Why should you?

Intense and energetic, you aren't completely happy unless you are bouncing off the walls.

You're addicted to caffeine. There's no denying it.

You are responsible, mature, and truly an adult. You're occasionally playful, but you find it hard to be carefree.

You are deep and thoughtful, but you are never withdrawn.

Falling behind...

I am way behind on my blogging (including photos from last week - Marieke, you and your mittens will be posted soon, I promise). It has been an eventful week. I have been working on looking for programs/projects/supervisors/funding for a PhD. I seem to have reached several dead ends/hit several unexpected brick walls (note, I have written and had to junk CIHR PhD applications for 3 different projects - I am currently considering pan-handling and selling off my organs as a viable source of research funding - though it does not look nearly as nice on a resume). I have also had several recent epiphanies and depiphanies of what I want to do with my life

Started my trials this past week for my MSc (1 down, 15 plus intro sessions and follow-up sessions to go - woot!).

I'm back home unexpectedly soon. My mom had a fall off of a raised boardwalk while on a hike/bird watching expedition. She's got a nasty tib-fib fracture and has been transfered to a local hospital (thankfully) and is awaiting surgery. She's had a rough time of it (probably not helped by a certain daughter who will go un-named driving home to see her and managing to faint/hit her head on the hospital floor/get herself admitted to emergency for a couple of hours of observation within a few minutes of arriving - yes I'm okay, just embarassed and a little head-achy) and has a long road ahead of her (but this time, I'm going to try to behave).

Pretty fall leaves

This was from our hike in the Gatineaus last weekend.
